Özet

The development of technology has reached an incredible speed from the late 20th century to the beginning of the 21st century. In accordance with that, all areas of life have been affected and changed. The field of education is also affected by these changes, and it is developing day by day. In the past, education was confined to the walls of classrooms throughout the 20th century and sought a way out. With the rapid development of technology, education has exceeded those walls (İşman, 2008). Nowadays, education can be regarded not only as an act that happens in schools but as an act that happens in every aspect of life. Technological tools and the internet have a big share in this. The fact that technological tools are more prevalent today has enriched accessibility to education from an open place, not behind closed doors. The transformation of education into an open form and the gathering of remote teachers, information resources, content, and learners have led to the awareness, spread and acceptance of distance education. This chapter first introduces distance language education and digital language learning materials followed by a detailed analysis into the ways how language learning materials are used in, adapted, and developed to online environments in relation to four skills under the evolution of the Web.
