Abstract
My name is Professor Dr. Dr. Yusuf Güneş, residing at Kerim Tekin Sokak, No:6, Daire:12, Ağaoğlu MyCity Bahçelievler, 3-B Blok, Bahçelievler, Istanbul, Türkiye.
I am currently the Head of the Department of Environmental and Forestry Law at Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Forestry in Türkiye, where I teach courses on Environmental Law, Forestry Law, International Environmental and Forestry Law, and Mining Law.
In this expert report, I discuss environmental issues associated with the Kirazli, Ağı Dağı, and Çamyurt gold mine projects (the “Projects”) in the Çanakkale region of Türkiye.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE AND CREDENTIALS
I graduated in 1987 with my first bachelor's degree in Forest Engineering and 993 with my second bachelor's degree in Law. I completed my master's degree in Forestry Law in 1989 and my second master’s degree in Forestry and Natural Resources in 1999. I received my first doctorate in Forestry Law in 2001 and my second doctorate in Private Law in 2016.
I have been serving as an academic since 1988 at the Faculty of Forestry, Department of Forest and Environmental Law, at Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa. I am a member of the Chamber of Forest Engineers and the Istanbul Bar Association.
I have been a professor of environmental and forestry law at Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa since 2011. Between 2013 and 2017, I served as the Deputy Dean of Istanbul University Faculty of Forestry. I currently am the Head of the Department of Environmental and Forestry Law at Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Forestry. I served as a legal consultant to the President of the University between 2019 and 2022 and have been serving as an acting legal advisor of the University since October 2020.
I have provided written testimony as an environmental expert in many disputes. The most prominent cases for which I have prepared reports are:
In 2017, the Akkuyu nuclear power plant cases in Danıştay (Conseil d’État /Supreme Court of Administrative Judgement in Türkiye).
In 2018, the Rize Cevizlik Hydro electrical power plant case in Rize Administrative Court.
In 2021, the Sinop nuclear power plant cases in Samsun 2nd and 3rd Administrative Courts.
