Özet
Objective: To evaluate clinical characteristics and prognosis of prenatally diagnosed fetal ventriculomegaly cases. Material and Methods: A retrospective investigation of the 92 consecutive cases of fetal ventriculomegaly diagnosed in utero in our clinic, 1999-2008 inclusive. Gestational age at diagnosis, associated malformations and chromosomal anomalies and obstetric outcomes were evaluated. Results: Gestational age at diagnosis was 24.6 ± 6.1 (14-39) weeks. Ventricular width was 10-15 mm, 16-20 mm and >20 mm in 43 (46.8%), 29 (31.5%) and 20 (21.7%) of cases respectively. Isolated ventriculomegaly, spina bifida, Dandy Walker malformation, corpus callosum agenesis, arachnoid cyst and encephalocele were encountered in 19.6%, 55.4%, 7.6% 7.6%, 5.4% and 2.2% of all patients, respectively. In our series 50% of the cases were medically aborted, 3.3% were lost in utero, 26.1% were lost during the postpartum period, 6.5% had developed various morbidities and 14.1% were alive and healthy. Twenty-four (55.8%) of the 43 livebirths were lost during the postnatal period, 6 (13.9%) had morbidities and 13 (30.2%) were healthy. The ventricular widths of the 4 healthy isolated ventriculomegaly and 3 healthy spina bifida cases were between 10-15 mm. Conclusion: Perinatal mortality and morbidity is high in prenatally diagnosed fetal ventriculomegaly. Early prenatal diagnosis allows detecting associated malformations, determining the prognosis and gives a chance for early termination of pregnancy. Copyright © 2010 by Türkiye Klinikleri.
