Özet

Chlorpyrifos (CPF; O,O-diethyl O-(3, 5, 6-trichloro- 2-pyridinol) phosphorothioate) is a commonly used organophosphate insecticide. Organophosphates are the most frequently used insecticides in agriculture, forestry and domestic control of insects. Organophosphate compounds enter the body through the skin, respiratory or oral route. These chemicals quickly disperse in the body and accumulate in the kidney and especially in adipose tissue. Organophosphates show their toxic effects through inhibition of AChE but can also affect other neurotransmitters, enzymes, and cell signalling pathways. It may also cause apoptosis by producing reactive oxygen species (ROS) and DNA fracture. Purpose of the study is to investigate the possible toxic effects of chlorpyrifos, and effects of selenium and curcumin, known to have antioxidant properties, on cell viability and proliferation in human embryonic kidney cell HEK293. When our results were examined it was observed that chlorpyrifos has moderately toxic effect on the HEK293 cell line and that the application of selenium and curcumin can increase cell proliferation with their antioxidant effects.
