Self-propagating room temperature synthesis of SDC20 oxide-ion conductor ceramics for solid oxide fuel cells

Özet

In  this  work  20  mole%  samaria-doped  ceria  (SDC20)  powders  was  synthesized  Self-Propagating  Room  Temperature  (SPRT)  synthesis  technique.  SPRT  technique  is  based  on  room  temperature  mechano-chemical  reaction  between  metal  nitrates  and  sodium  hydroxide,  wherein  the  reaction  is  spontaneous  and  terminates extremely fast. Thanks to the applied mechanical energy, it is possible for  the reaction to take place at room temperature and to observe the reaction with the naked eye. Accordingly, appropriate amount of chemicals were hand-mixed in agate mortar for 20 min until the mixture got light brown.  After being exposed to air for 3 h, the mixture was suspended in water. Nano-structured SDC20 particles were taken by centrifugation. The synthesized powders were characterized by XRD, TGA, SEM.  After characterization, all synthesized nano powders were pressed uniaxially and isostaticaly. Pelletized and sintered samples was characterized by SEM and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) analysis.
