The Effect of The Robotics Module Usage Towards Students’ Attitude and Motivation in Science Teaching

Özet
Introduction
The developments in science and technology cause developments in education. As the development of robotics affected all areas of science, it also affected the educational area. Robotics technical training sets which take place in innovative approaches of education, include designing of the programmable robots and the plastic parts which are mountable one another. Students can design various movable robots by using robotics technical training sets which are produced specifically. When these kinds of approaches and technologies become integrated with the appropriate methods and the teaching environment, it is expected that the 21 century skills of all students in all ages will improve. The aim of this study is to examine the effects of the use of robotics modules in science teaching over the students’ attitudes and motivations towards science.
Materials and Methods (Design/methodology/approach)
In In this study, quantitative search method and quasi-experimental model with pretest-posttest design control group were used. In experimental group, teaching of the 6th grade force and motion topics in science education was done by using robotic module activities by the researcher by following the MONE’s topics and obejectives which was belong to 2016-2017 educational year’s force and motion topics in science education; and, in control groups, teaching was done by the researcher by following the MONE’s topics and obejectives which was belong to 2016-2017 educational year’s force and motion topics in science education. As data collection tools; Science and Technology Attitude Scales improved by Balım, Sucuoğlu and Aydın (2009) and Motivation Scale For Learning Science improved by Yılmaz ve Çavaş (2007) were used.
Results (Findings)
For data analysis, Mann Whitney U-Testi and Wilcoxon signed rank test were used through SPSS 22.0 program. “Science and Technology Attitude Scales” and “Motivation Scale for Learning Science” were implemented as pretest-posttest to experimental and control groups. According to posttest results, a meaningful difference between the experimental and the control group for the good of the experimental group have been determined. This results reflects that the use of activities of Robotics Module influences the increase in the levels of attitude and motivation towards physical sciences.
Innovation (Practical implications)
In the present study, in science teaching, robotics modules have been used within innovative approaches. In teaching science topics, it has been observed that the use of robotics modules have some positive influences over affective learning components of the students.
