All rights reserved. In this study, the effect of different combustion agents in the synthesis of Ce0.8Sm0.2O1.9 ceramic structures used as solid oxide fuel cell electrolyte material was investigated. As the burning agent, the most economical and simple amino acids, glycine, alanine and valine were used. The adiabatic flame temperatures were calculated for three different fuel conditions and the microstructures of the obtained powders were characterized by TGA, XRD and SEM. O2- ion conductivities of pelleted samples calcined at 800 ºC and sintered at 1400 ºC were measured by Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy for 800 ºC and the highest conductivity value was obtained when Alanine was used as the combustion agent. The effect of microstructure on conductivity for the case of Alanine fuel was discussed in detail and the conductivity value of 4.54x10-2 S.cm-1 was obtained with sintered sample at 1400 ºC, which was calcined at 360 ºC.
