Özet

The synthesis of xanthenes has increased remarkably in recent years due to their wide range of biological and pharmacological

properties. Xanthenes are important biologically active oxygen-containing heterocyclic compounds. These types of

compounds have some biological and pharmacological properties, such as anticarcinogenic [1], antiviral [2], antibacterial [3],

and anti-inflammatory [4]. Because of their pharmaceutical activity, they are used in photodynamic therapy [5].

In this study, firstly, new derivatives (substituted 9-arylxanthenes) of xanthene compounds with important biological activities

were synthesized by developing a new synthesis method. In order to obtain xanthene derivatives, the original alkene

compounds to be used as the starting point were synthesized in 4 steps using appropriate reactions. In order to obtain the

desired xanthene derivatives, ring closure reaction was carried out by intramolecular Friedel-Crafts alkylation of the

synthesized starting compounds, the appropriate alkene compounds. This method is unique with the development of suitable

catalyst and reaction conditions. As a result, an alkene compound was used in the synthesis of xanthene through ring closure

by activating it for the first time.

Using the newly developed method, 12 substituted 9-arylxanthene derivatives with original structures and possible biological

activity were synthesized. The structures of the synthesized compounds were illuminated by FT-IR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR and

GC/MS.
