Özet:

Technology has been a subject of interest in education as it has been for many areas. The effects of the technology on education have resulted in emerging new approaches and different practices. In this context, augmented reality technologies also offer many innovations in teaching methods. Augmented reality helps students experience the subjects that are not possible to visualize in classes or understand complex terms along with being a different tool in teaching the subjects. This study presents a quantitative research that examines the effects of augmented reality technologies on the success of the primary level students leaning English as a foreign language. The study was carried out with a control and experimental group and it lasted for nine weeks. Before the treatment a pretest was conducted for both of the groups. Then, while the experimental group was taught with augmented reality tools for eight week, the control group had traditional teaching enriched with visual and audial materials. At the end of the treatment post-tests were applied to see the scores of the groups. The results of the research showed that augmented reality tools had no meaningful effects on the success of the primary level students in English learning as a foreign language. Although the students were observed to enjoy the treatment, it was seen that the augmented reality tools had no significant effects on the success of the students apart from being a tool that differentiate the teaching process.
