Abstract
Paradigm shifts discussed as social, critical, and digital turn in language studies necessitate the re-spacing of English for Academic Purposes (EAP) to be responsive to the needs, interests, and identities of language learners in diverse ecologies of tertiary education. Drawing on these perspectives, the chapter questions if and to what extent Critical English for Academic Purposes (CEAP) can open new venues for inclusive teaching in practice through the lens of integrated academic literacy, bridging content, academic, and critical literacy with recognition and validation of language users’ linguistic, cultural, and semiotic resources. The chapter elaborates on this topic with specific reference to prospective English language teachers’ engagement in multiliteracy-informed linguistic landscape project work at a Turkish state university. While highlighting the need for new learning spaces anchored in reflexivity and dialogism to support the professional identity development of (future) EAP practitioners, the chapter also addresses how critical engagement enacting awareness at multiple levels might inform both prospective teachers and teacher educators in every stage of individual as well as collective action, from planning to implementation and from emergent outcomes to further improvement.
