Industry 4.0 Research Group
Welcome to the
website of Industry 4.0 Research Group
The rapid growth
of the population of the world, the reduction of natural resources, the
emergence of globalization in commerce, competition, supply-demand
balance, consumer demands, scientific and technological developments
direct the industry towards a more dynamic process than the traditional
structure. The industrial revolution, which began in the 18th century with the
use of the steam engine in industry, has now reached a new milestone. This is
known as the concept of “Industry 4.0” and the “4. Industrial
Revolution”.
What is Industry
4.0? What components does it consist of? What are the advantages and areas of
application? Industry 4.0 consists of the Internet of Things (IoT), the
internet of services, and cyber-physical systems. It is built on top of six
main principles: interoperability, virtualization, autonomous management,
real-time capability, service orientation, and modularity. Industry 4.0 has
very important advantages in industry, economy, and social life. The most
important of these can be summarized as follows: increased productivity,
significant reduction of costs, reduction of production times, minimizing
manufacturing errors, ensuring flexible production, easy monitoring of the whole
system, contributing to the use of fewer raw materials, acceleration of
administrative decision processes.
In the concept of
Industry 4.0, it is possible to communicate objects with each other,
human/robot/machine/product interaction, instant collection, and processing of
data. Industry 4.0 is undoubtedly expected to have serious implications for the
sociological structure of society. As a result of the process, it is foreseen
that there will be a transition from an information society to a super-smart
society. This is also defined as “Society 5.0” as a concept.
Industry 4.0 has the potential to be used in many industries, from the
automotive industry to electronics, from the chemical industry to the
medical-pharmaceutical, from the forest products (furniture, composites, paper,
door-window-parquet, etc.) industry to the textile industry, from food to energy,
from the aerospace industry to the machinery industry.
Industry 4.0 Research
Group is a multidisciplinary research group established to carry out R&D
and innovation studies in collaboration with industry, in addition to producing
scientific studies in the fields outlined above.
